Skills and Drills for November 19 and 20 2021

November 16, 2021 NewslettersSkills and Drills

We’ll be working on submerged shooting this weekend. Friday will see us tethered in spot, holding our breath and shooting under water at targets 6 inches away. Saturday you will be navigating a stage while wearing a rebreather.

Okay, enough joking.

The club has been hit hard, we do not have a timeline of when we will be back to operational status. Currently about 6-8ft of water are on the property and there will obviously be significant damage as a result. I would be amazed to see the outdoor ranges usable before the New Year and the indoor before spring time.

We will rebuild and recover, but it’s going to take time.

Skills and Drills for November 12th and 13th 2021

November 9, 2021 NewslettersSkills and Drills

Another weekend of shooting coming up. Friday will see more standard drills and diagnostics. Saturday will be more movement for IPSC.

Taping and resetting the stage:

  • The shooter who just shot and is looking at their target doesn’t tape
  • The shooter before that should be loading mags and doesn’t tape
  • The shooter who is next to shoot doesn’t tape
  • The RO and Score Keeper don’t tape
  • If RO’s have changed the RO that has retired gets to rest and doesn’t tape unless they want to.

Clear right? If you have to be told to tape twice, you will be asked to leave if you aren’t helping unless you have a very good reason. We need everyone helping to reset the stage, otherwise we won’t get all the planned runs in. Those with medical issues need to state this at the start of the night...

Skills and Drills October 29th and 30th 2021

October 27, 2021 NewslettersSkills and Drills

We are on this weekend.

Friday is our regular S&D night at 7pm with us doing a series of standard exercises and drills for the night. More drills and repetition this Friday night, working on some standard drills from my old friend, the late Todd Louis Green. We’ll be working on Typewriter and Changing Gears Friday night.

Saturday night, starting at 6pm, will see us doing another setup of the Snake Drill, with different target engagements. This drill incorporates some of the most varied movement of any drill you can run and really works on your setups and exits. If you arrive late for setup you better stay for teardown or you will not be allowed to attend again.

Skills and Drills Friday and Saturday October 15 and 16 2021

October 13, 2021 NewslettersSkills and Drills

We are on this weekend. Friday is our regular S&D night with us doing a series of standard exercises and drills for the night. We’ll be working on diagnosing deficiencies and  fixing them through repetition and analysis. (big words right?) Saturday nights are back to being IPSC movement and we will be doing the same as we did last week, build a stage from 6 to 7pm, then start off with walking the stage, learning timing, shooting at 50% speed, and no score taken. Hits are called out, but we are not scoring. Each run after that will see your speed of movement and shooting slightly increased, until we get to the final run, which will be run under match conditions with scoring done and your Hit Factor and placement given after cleanup...
