S&D June 25-26

June 21, 2021 NewslettersSkills and Drills

We are on this weekend. Friday is regular practice night and we will be again working on partial targets as it’s an obvious area needing work, as last week we will build from simple stationary work on the partial to short movement, reloads etc. This is not a good night for the basic level shooter to attend, you are welcome but you may find yourself overwhelmed. Holsters are mandatory for this particular class unlike our normal Friday nights. This is due to the upcoming matches for IPSC. Saturday nights are back to being IPSC movement and we will be doing the same as we did last week, build a stage from 6 to 7pm, then start off with walking the stage, learning timing, shooting at 50% speed, and no score taken. Hits are called out, but we are not scoring. Each run after that will see your speed of movement and shooting slightly increased, until we get to the final run, which will be run under match conditions with scoring done and your Hit Factor and placement given after cleanup. I will provide breakdowns of individual runs if I notice major points to be improved on, and also provide info on efficiency and stage breakdown after the first run for everyone.

If you arrive late for setup you better stay for teardown or you will not be allowed to attend again.

Taping and resetting the stage:

  • The shooter who just shot and is looking at their target doesn’t tape
  • The shooter before that should be loading mags and doesn’t tape
  • The shooter who is next to shoot doesn’t tape
  • The RO and Score Keeper don’t tape
  • If RO’s have changed the RO that has retired gets to rest and doesn’t tape unless they want to.

Clear right? If you have to be told to tape twice, you will be asked to leave if you aren’t helping unless you have a very good reason. We need everyone helping to reset the stage, otherwise we won’t get all the planned runs in. Those with medical issues need to state this at the start of the night. If you know before arriving that you won’t be able to help, please, don’t sign up. It is not fair to those who put in all the work that someone sits and does nothing other than shoot. You will need to practice on your own and not come to these classes. After all props are put away, brass may be collected, do not take more than you have shot. If we have a 32 round long course, that means 128 rounds if we do 4 runs and you don’t take any extra shots. Extra brass is retained by the club.

There is a new registration system in place for both nights. If you wish to attend you must click the link below and register. Classes will be limited in size and it’s first come first serve.  Registration for the week will open immediately after I send post this to my website. Typically an email will then go out the next day.
